How much can a ceiling chin up bar support?

This summer I’m planning on building a chin up bar. Will it support my weight if it increases from 240?

It weould all depend upon your ceiling joists they are attached too..I would personally get up in the attic and run what we call a “scab’ which is another board run along the length of the board you will be attaching the ceiling part too..this is simply another board ran about 5 or 6 feet long nailed/screwed into the existing ceiling joist doubling the strength

Actually, I think the first suggestion is called “sistering”, and it’s a good suggestion. Once you reinforce the joist you can mount the bar through the ceiling into the original joist. You need to think about this, though. I hope you have high ceilings because if you don’t, when you’re at the top of your pull you’re going to bump your head. That’s what’s kept me from mounting one in my home gym.
